- Make licorice tea and then pour through a strainer into the fermenter after adding the first container of juice (to avoid temperature shock to the glass from the hot tea.
- For the first batch, boiled 8 oz. of water and poured it over the licorice root. It was plenty to cover the root. I let it steep for ~8 minutes (partly based on how long other stuff took, more than any particular reasoning, though I wanted it still hot and mostly sterile), then poured it in.
