What did you get delivered today

CBA32AA0-109C-4896-83A4-8DF1717D3FF0.jpeg

I picked up 10# Colonial Pils, 10# Keystone Pale (2-Row), and 1.5# each of Triticale, Pale Wheat and Twilight Wheat from Deer Creek Malthouse in PA. This gets stocked next to 7 other malts of theirs that I already have.

Great people to deal with if you are looking for a craft malt. On their site they don’t list 10# bags as an option, but after asking they were only happy to help fill a custom order for a small time homebrewer.

Got 3 second hand kegs, 3 seal kits, a blowtie kit, a flow stopper kit, a 2 micron air stone and 2 micron air filter, got some 96% phosphoric acid (that stuffs 1ml/2lt:eek:). Got some yeast nutrient am I supposed to store that in fridge?
Some Sazz for upcoming dark Czech lager. And some of these beverage tags.

I'm planning on using whiteboard marker for reference and hopefully not smear off writing!

Time to get stripping and a cleaning them filthy Pepsi kegs!

Mash Kit.jpg
The mashing kit for my Digiboil showed up today. It pretty much turns it into a first generation Mash & Boil, but with a couple of advantages I've discovered during the water only test run. The controller keeps tighter tolerance on temperature and instead of having a choice between 1,000 watts and 1,600 watts, the Digiboil can do 500, 1,000 or 1500 watts.

This means a not overshooting mash temps nearly as much by using the 500 watt setting to hold temperature. Using 2 thermometers, one near the top of the liquid and one near the bottom, I've determined that decreasing my mash temperature setting by 2 degrees F from that of the recipe would result in a swing that was within about 2 measured degrees on either side of the desired temperature.

This testing was done at room temperature, no extra insulation, stirring or recirculation, and with the same volume of water at 152F as the mash volume would be in the pale ale I'll be brewing Thursday. The unit only turned on twice to correct temperature in an hour. I expect little difference with the actual mash. Will find out Thursday when it gets the first brew run through it.

Aside from that, it looks lika a couple percent increase in efficiency and the ability to more easily do reiterated mashes for big beers. Thinking This is going to be a greatt all in one system for about 3/4 the cost of the least expensive alternative.

Onya bob looks like your onto a winner.

Lookin forward to seeing it in action!

I've got a 2 step stool that I'll be using to pull the malt pipe and dump the sparge water in it. A lot easier to pull up weight than to push it up. That becomes more obvious as one gets older :)

Man I got some work to do in the brewery today.

Gotta transfer the Leahs beer into recieving keg

Gotta get a starter prepped for next brew.

Which brings me to gotta sort out what I'll brew next (thinking ginger Ninger or helles)

I've also gotta wire in the cable on my sparge pot since I ripped the wires clean outta it luckily wasn't plugged in.

And gunna solder/wire in a new connection for my main kettle after it caught fire recently remember that boys and girls:eek::D.
I think I know the name for my brew house Damaged Brewhouse or Dodgy bros brewhouse lol touch wood aye!

And i gotta put me kettle back together if I'm brewing tomorrow.
Phew I think it'll be a miracle if im brewing tomorrow...

Bob that is all kinds of awesome right there. Only upgrade in equipment I get to do in the foreseeable future is switching from flip flops to boots in the cold weather.

Decided to add my laundry sink to the garage, so far it's portable so I bought a pool hose for the drain, just came in today, so far it's duct taped to the sink, this will have to do for now

It is that time of year, isn't it. The old sneakers will take a rest as soon as the cold rains and snow start. Time to oil down the old boots and get them ready .
