What are you doing with homebrew today?

Not much doing today
Dry hopped an IPA at high krausen
Didn't take a gravity reading. Don't really care it just started to drop. Going away for a few days it should be done when I get back. Might reuse the cake

Today I bottled a 1/2 gallon of kombucha, got my Brewzilla filled with RO for brew day (had to postpone it though), racked 12 gallons of wine, and mixed up some rhubarb shrub for my fizzy water. Didn’t actually do anything with beer, though- except currently drinking it!

Man, this latest batch of beer is really kicking my ass. First the spigot on my new fermenter leaked, then today I tried to keg my beer for the first time and once I got it in the cleaned and sanitized keg, I hit it with C02, and there was an audible leak coming from the pressure release valve. I tried using the C02 to give it a nice seal but no matter how I configured the cap, there was a leaking sound coming from the PRV. I was thinking of transferring it to my other keg, which is very dirty, but I couldn't get the posts off of that, so I just called it a day.

Now I have a bunch of beer sitting in a keg in my fridge without carbonation. I guess I'll grab another keg tomorrow and transfer, or maybe I will try to naturally carbonate it with sugar, but idk. It's sitting at like 40 F right now. I think I'd have to crank the heat up for a day, so might as well get a keg that works. Plus, I took it off the yeast cake around day 5 because of the spigot leak.

Anyways, the sample is tasting good, so I am optimistic but sweaty and tired.

Can you remove the prv and clean?
Or maybe you are using too high CO2 pressure for the type of prv?
I'm sure you though about it, but hey, maybe not

Well it's in the keg and purged of O2 so it's safe from oxidation. Just order a couple new lids. Father's day sales going on now.

I had the regulator set to about 12, so I can’t imagine that was the issue. I just tried another corny lid and had the same problem. C02 blowing out of the PRV. Not sure what is going on as this is the first time I have kegged.

Now that's curious. Is it the ring top PRV ? If you pull them up and give a half turn the lock open. Try pulling up and half turn left
Just guessing

Yes, they both have ring tops. I will give that a try.

My advice was going to be similar, and that would be to make sure the PRV is screwed in tight. I had this problem the last time I kegged. Audible leak around PRV. It wasn't in the open position so I rotated it clockwise and the leak stopped.

Kegged my Dunkel. I also replaced my float dip tube in the fermzilla with a float it 2.0. We’ll see.
I switched my fermenting kegs to Float Its a few months ago. Seem to be working better than the generic Amazon ones I had before

I just ordered 2 more FLOTit 2.0 taps so now all kegs will have them. It was cheapest ordering directly from HomeBrewerLab.com ($25 each + $4.75 shipping).

Yesterday, I kegged my Amber Ale, the first batch fermented in my new to me (used) stainless fermenter. The sample smelled and tasted good, and beer flowed clear through transfer tube. Using Wyeast 1056 with the intention of harvesting slurry for several batches, I was somewhat dissapointed when I opened the fermenter after transfer. The aroma was not what I expected - it just smelled “off” in some way. Maybe it is normal for a stainless fermenter to have a different aroma than plastic? At the end of the day, I ended up with a full keg and a jar of slurry.

Hooked a picnic tap up to my first kegged beer tonight and... beer started leaking out of the ball lock disconnect. Undid the tap, put it back together, same thing. Hooked up a different ball lock disconnect and the same thing happened: beer leaked out of the ball lock disconnect.

Looking online, it seems like maybe my post o-ring is no good? First time using this old keg, so I wouldn't be surprised. I did take off the original post o-ring and replace it with one from another keg bc it looked kind of worn. I have no idea what to do now that I have almost carbonated beer in this keg. Pressure transfer it to another keg and try to fix the post? So far, my first time kegging has been a nightmare lol
