Amber Ale day. Haven’t brewed one of these in over a year and I’m not sure why. New recipe. Supposed to be 17 SRM, but seems darker.

Brewed a Scottish Wee Heavy Saturday. Hence the double boil. The BK on the grill is for reducing 1.25 gallons down 0.5 gallons. It really adds a wonderful caramel flavor.

This is the recipe I use: https://www.brewersfriend.com/homebrew/recipe/view/239213/traquair-house-style-wee-heavy. Only thing I have to remember for next time is to lower the efficiency due to the high OG. I undershot expected OG by 7 points.

Forgot to mention that you take first runnings for the reduction. The gravity of that portion went from 1.080 (hydrometer) to 1.200 (calculated).

It's a bit of a novelty for me to see the kettle so full yep I could fit another liter in there !

Christmas Ale, two cinnamon sticks crumbled, and 1 oz of fresh ginger added late in the boil, sample tasted real good. Garage smells like Christmas!

Haha gotta find that sweet spot between efficiency and easy. I'm glad I switched to BIAB, but only 55% was bumming me out

Yeah I sparge every brew regardless I can count on 83% give or take a point or two brew house. Might as well do something while the wort is comming to the boil too.

Janet’s Brown Ale is boiling. Based on a lower than expected pre-boil gravity, along with a slightly high pre-boil volume, I am electing to extend my boil time by 10 minutes. I will boil for 70 minutes, starting my hops additions at 60 minutes.
