Well I have a couple 9' penn
surf casters and a shorter jigging rod and some short stubby Penns with cable line

My fly rods are that long as well both plueger


But I'm looking for freshwater tackle
I was thinking the Ugly Stick would be kind stiff a action which would be good for pike
But the Abu would be more versatile

My camp is in Franklin county NY
So mostly Bass, Pike and big ass perch
I'm not looking for a winch though

Ugly Stik are basically unbreakable. I love my 6.5' spinning combo. It can do just about anything I need with 10# line and I've had it almost 20 years

Not sure about the smaller Ugly Stiks, but I keep 15# on the bigger ones all the time. I'm on my second one. The first one lasted almost 40 years
I think you do have to go to the store to look at those things and play with them.
The reels are all pieces of shit these days. I had a Penn for years when they used to actually make them in this country. The new ones are garbage, so I buy ElCheapo ones on Amazon now. When they rust or break, I buy another cheap one.

As your can see once I sold my offshore boat and my son moved away havnt got much use
Like I said I haven't been fishing in awhile but had a lot invested in inventory which needs cleaning and upgrades
Figured I'd start where it all began years ago with a basic combo and see if I catch the bug again

As long as you aren't using that thing in salt water. I rusted the shit out of one like that in no time. My beach chairs don't last long either.

I sure do like to fish, and in my good fortune, Oregon is a great place for fishing. Earlier this year, I went on my first ever steelhead fishing trip, floating in a drift boat on the Siletz River, and came away with my first keeper on a five fish day. The first pic is my first steelhead ever, a wild fish released as required (only hatchery raised fish can be kept). The second is my keeper, which provided some really quality table fare, especially the alder wood smoked chunks that I made.

Love steelhead. Crispy skin, pan fried with a little thyme
