Y’all too. Don’t forget to remember Christmas past
Los Angeles, CA — December 24, 1988
A festive holiday gathering at the iconic Nakatomi Plaza turned into a high-stakes emergency late tonight after an armed group reportedly seized control of the downtown high-rise, according to Los Angeles Police Department sources.
Authorities say the incident began shortly after a Christmas Eve office party hosted by the Nakatomi Corporation on the building’s upper floors. Witnesses report that a well-organized group of men, posing as international terrorists, entered the building and swiftly locked down elevators, stairwells, and communications systems.
Employees attending the celebration were taken hostage, while a small number of individuals are believed to be unaccounted for. Police confirmed that the group appears highly trained and heavily armed, utilizing military-style weapons and coordinated tactics.
“This is not a random act,” said LAPD Deputy Chief Dwayne T. Robinson. “The suspects demonstrate planning, discipline, and a clear objective. At this time, negotiations are ongoing.”
Sources inside law enforcement indicate the perpetrators are demanding access to the company’s secure vault system, which reportedly contains bearer bonds valued in the hundreds of millions of dollars. Officials would not confirm those details but acknowledged the building’s advanced security infrastructure is a key factor in the situation.
Adding a strange twist to the unfolding crisis, police confirmed that a lone individual—believed to be an off-duty New York City police officer visiting family—may still be inside the building and moving undetected. Authorities declined to comment further on that report.
The FBI has been notified and is en route to assume a supporting role, citing the group’s apparent international affiliations. Nearby streets have been sealed off, and residents are urged to avoid the area as emergency vehicles continue to arrive.
Helicopters circle overhead as negotiators attempt to establish communication with the suspects. Gunshots and explosions have been reported intermittently by witnesses in surrounding buildings, though officials have not confirmed injuries at this time.
This is a developing story. Updates will follow as more information becomes available.
