Lutra Kveik “Cold IPA” ?

I don’t expect big hits of aroma from either hop but I am shooting for balance tipped slightly in favor of bitter, with good hop flavor from the whirlpool.
I’m fermenting in the high 70’s to 84F, so warm but not HOT. We’ll see what happens.
So just an IPA then...

I've used it- and I dislike lutra and really can pick it out a mile away. I know, I know- everyone says it's clean but it reminds me a little of the off-flavor of S04 when fermented a little bit too warm. In something with a lot of fruity hops, it may be ok but I have never tasted a beer that used it that I found really clean and tasty.
I've used it in beer with actual fruit, not just fruity hops. It works fine, especially to turn a beer in 3 days for a fest that drunkards will be guzzling on a hot day along with other brews. I even got 3rd in a People's Choice once with it. I haven't tried it in a 'regular brew' that I'd want to drink or turn into a competition yet.

Honestly, I think it fits more into the APA than IPA category. The hops are there, good aroma, well balanced but not BIG. It's not bad or average by any stretch, I do like it for the target but I would not enter it into some competition to get shot down by because it doesn't check all the boxes the right way for that person.

Nice. Honestly, I wouldn't try to shoehorn Lutra into a recipe I'd otherwise brew with a lager yeast based on how it's turned out for me before and like you said it does work great for quick turnarounds and minimal temp control. Keep it in its lane and Lutra is awesome. It does work about as well as Voss, but does not impart the grapefruit aroma Voss does.

Another thing to remember about Kveik is that it was discovered as what was being used at the time by Nordic brewers, mostly literally, *House* strains because it was from homebrewers, not commercial outlets. These strains are un-likely to have been 'selected' for any particular properties, and were probably just whatever the result of repeated isolated use would produce in certain worts.

Also, the beers these folks were making are very different than anything we are used to elsewhere and are closer to what is found in historical 'beer' recipes many of which didn't even involve grains or hops. (Though the Norwegians do use grain presently, and some may use hops.)

They also consume the result pretty quickly after brewing, or at least start doing so, sometimes, straight from the fermenter with a ladle! While those strains can be used in modern styles, they will undoubtedly imprint their own special quirks upon such brews. Some strains may be better fitting to some styles than others, perhaps even being masked entirely, while some combos may just be right-off and out of place.
