the problem Ive had is if the filter is not weighted some times the float holds it the strainer high
I've had to wiggle the fermenter to get it so I can get all the beer out
I've used it without the ball as well
the only thing nice about the ball is for serving from it
at least you can see the float Ive had more problems with those floats in my kegs leaves alot of beer behind

The end cap of the filter is now weighted so it should sit lower.
