Hi All,
If I edit a recipe by Goal and percentages something strange is happening.

if I enter malts at, for example:

35%, 50%, 7.5%, 7.5%

and then save, these percentages display correctly. However, if I then re-edit and re-save the recipe they change to

38.6%, 54.7%, 4.2%, 3.5%.

I understand that this may be something to do with converting % volume to % sugars but I finding it really confusing. Could this be made more transparent? For example, how can I know what % volumes I started with?

Apologies if this is already resolved somewhere.

It’s great software though!

Thanks

Malcolm.

It doesn't happen to me...BUT I think in this case it is happening because of the sugar. Since sugar has a higher ppg and is 100% fermentable, that could be the issue. What happens if you make the same recipe without simple sugars?

@Yooper I am having the same problem as @Miwalker with the % ingredients changing. It happens on every recipe I have entered so far regardless of weather it has Dextrose or not. here is link to an example recipe with no Dextrose https://www.brewersfriend.com/homebrew/recipe/view/1355956/czech-mate

Here are the percentages I want on this recipe
OG 1.044
IBU 29
89.00 % Pilsner malt
5.00 % Vienna
4.00 % CaraPils
2.00 % Acid malt

Mash Temp 69C
Mash thickness 3.4L/KG
target mash ph5.5

Bump…

At least I now know it’s not just me.

It happen to all recipes. Am I missing something?

Thanks in advance.

@jeffbarleycorn

Interesting. When I copy and recreate your recipe I get exactly same new percentages as you. .

There is clearly some process going on that I am missing..

I've put in a support ticket for this, to let those smarter than me try to fix it!
:)

To add to this, I've calculated the same grain bill in the Grainfather software and it looks like the initial Brewers Friend goal calculations are not correct but the changed values are correct.

So for example, if I enter malts at:

35%, 50%, 7.5%, 7.5%

and then save, these percentages display as above. However, if I then re-edit and re-save the recipe they change to

38.6%, 54.7%, 4.2%, 3.5%.

Note that the weights of the malts do not change

I then put the same weight of malts into the Grainfather software and it gives me the same percentages as the changed values in BF, i.e.:

38.6%, 54.7%, 4.2%, 3.5%.

This suggests the initial goal percentage calcs aren't working correctly for me.

it does the same whether I use ABV of SG as the goal.

Thanks

Malcolm.

@Yooper

Did this ticket get anywhere?

Thanks.

It's in our priority list- we're trying to put 'all hands on deck' right now to get the apps out this week so other things are still being worked on slowly but once we release the apps we're going to move on the priority items.
