Hello,

I currently brew with a 10 gallon Anvil Foundry 220V. On 99% of brew days my pre-boil gravity reading is always higher than the post boil gravity reading. The sample is taken after we have removed the grain basket, post sparge, and the reading comes from the bottom via the pump. The immersion chiller does not look like there is any holes which would add water during the chilling phase.

We always just thought it was normal until we joined a home brewing club and started hosting brew days with club members and them saying that was wrong. The post boil gravity reading should always be higher than the pre-boil reading.

What could the issue be? We love brewing with the Anvil.

How much different?

What is the temperature difference?

The sample is normally in the 80 degree range. Today there was a difference of .007, other times it's been as high as .015.

Next time, after mash, stir the wort. Then take your reading. I have seen 20 pt difference. The wort settles and the bottom is always higher gravity

As your friends said, should be higher gravity after boil, you have less water (more concentrated). Nothing wrong with your setup, just have to alter your measurement
