2025 Q3 Community brew

Mine penciled out to 46 IBUs. That's probably fairly accurate - it's got a pretty good bite to it but it's not harsh and has good flavors and aromas to smooth it out. It's a little tough to be accurate with a split batch. The other half, which only got the Magnum for bittering and and an ounce of Willamette at 5 minutes, calculates at 33 IBUs. That one doesn't really seem that bitter but it's probably about right. I'll have to judge when it carbs fully and drops good and clear.

I recently acquired a new mash tun specifically for doing 5 gallon batches and I'll be interested in developing this recipe on its own. I think that playing with the hop schedule in the boil to bring the IBUs down just a little and keeping the bio-trans hop routine will give it a really nice flavor profile.
I forget, did you keep the Vienna and rye malt in yours?

I didn't bother with the Rye on this batch because I don't keep it on hand. I used Rahr 2-row and 20% Maris Otter instead of Vienna just because I had more of it. Since this was a split and the other half is a pretty straight UK beer, I kept the grist simple. I'll try some rye next time but I may keep it at 5% or so until I decide how it impacts flavor for me. I can see the Vienna having a little more sweetness in the malt profile so that's something I'd do next batch. For the straight UK Golden Ale Version I like the MO in the mix but I'll brew them in smaller batches and separately next go-round. :)

Nice! I'm curious if you'll tell a difference since the Vienna and Rye are in small quantities.

I picked up grains, needed hops, and yeast for tomorrow's brew day of the newly renamed, Sunfire Golden Ale.
(The second US-05 is just a spare and the Oetiker clamps are to finish the replacement of my CO2 lines.)
