1st time kegging, looking for advice

It does. I purge every transfer.
The problem I have with this is that diffusion of gas into liquid is suprising slow. That's at room temp, it's even slower at the temps we're probably working with.

I'd be expecting that the difference in dissolved oxygen is very small between filling an unpurged keg with beer and then purging the headspace vs. filling a purged keg with beer . And that just at a quantitative level. The perceptable effect is full of variation based on beer style and age of the beer.

So I focus on purging the headspace if I haven't purged the keg first. And I try to purge the keg first, but if I don't, I don't fret about it much.
 
Same, I minimize splashing by transferring through the liquid post, then I just give the head space a good purge and pressurize right away.
