Beetroot, Chilli and Chocolate Stout with wyeast 1318

Hi All. Just a re-cap... I made a nice healthy starter with Bry-97 using malt extract, added that and let the temperature rise from 19.5 up to 22C over a few days. After 9 days, the beer had only dropped 1 extra point. To be honest, I'm a bit stumped but the beer is tasting pretty damn...

Beetroot, Chilli and Chocolate Stout with wyeast 1318

Yeh, I picked it for it's lower atttenuation but expected more than that. Think you're right in that it may have needed more oxygen at the start. Got the FV back up to 19.5C and re-pitched yesterdayt evening with a nice healthy starter from Bry-97. The FV has risen almost to 20C and it looks...

Beetroot, Chilli and Chocolate Stout with wyeast 1318

Hi all, hope you're having a great festive season. I suspect I have a stuck fermentation but before I go re-pitching yeast I just wanted to see if anyone has had experience brewing with Beetroot and/or wyeast 1318. Went a bit off-piste with this brew, particularly in that I've never brewed...

Sparge/Strike water ratio to high? for a thick mash neipa

https://www.brewersfriend.com/homebrew/recipe/view/959783/little-nipper thanks for the help guys... the recipe above reflects what actually happened on brew day (yesterday). I had to dial my liquor back volume right down to hit target gravity.

Sparge/Strike water ratio to high? for a thick mash neipa

Hey Up everybody, I'm planning on brewing a silky moughfeel session NEIPA. Had great results on the same recipe at 6.7% ABV with a mash thickness of 2.3. When I drop my grain bill right down, aiming for a 4.7% beer, I'm worried that I'll be pushing too much sparge water through to reach my...

    Liquoring back hyrdometer readings

Hey guys, sorry for the delay... I think all it came down to was that I intended to add 40 Litres into 190 litres of wort to get up to 230 but couldn't actually fit all that into my fermenter so the dilution was wrong for my target gravity. Here's the recipe with target OG of 1.052. I...

    Liquoring back hyrdometer readings

So I've just brewed up a nice pale ale and liquored back but I'm getting a much higher gravity than expected. I'm wondering if it may be due to taking samples from the fermenters tap where the liquids density might be higher if the added water hasn't fully mixed with the wort? Any suggestions...

Very slow fermentation with yeast bay vermont ale

The Yeast Bay (White Labs) label says Isolated from a uniquely crafted double IPA out of the Northeastern United States, this yeast produces a balanced fruity ester profile of peaches and light citrus that complements any aggressively hopped beer. So yeah, probably the conan strain.

Very slow fermentation with yeast bay vermont ale

No I didn't make a starter. I'd just got back off holiday and had limited time to brew so didn't have a days lead in for a starter - I'm kind of regretting that now. I did aerate though. For now, I think I'll go with warming it up a bit more and being patient. It's all a learning curve right.

Very slow fermentation with yeast bay vermont ale

Hi All, decided to brew a vermont style ale using The Yeast Bays Vermont Ale yeast. This is the first time I've used this yeast. Brew day was last wednesday (8 days ago). Everything was going fine, pitched into wort at 20C. 8 days later and I'm still on 1.028 with the target being 1.010...

first go carbonating in corny keg

Thanks Crunk. It's just outside to carbonate and then yeah, I'll move it into the cellar. I'm not serving this one to the public but plan to have a few staff drinks with it. The beer is an amber biscuit with loads of amarillo for aroma, a bit of citra, cascade and lots of mosaic for flavour...

first go carbonating in corny keg

Hey Brewers, I've just set up my first corny keg and transferred my brew from the conditioning tank. Two questions. First; some small amounts of hops from the dry-hop got into the tank - will this be a problem? Two; it's winter here and about 7c outside in the day and 4c overnight. I've...

    little fermentation goin on

Well being patient has paid off. Went down to take a hyrdometer reading this morning and found the beer bubbling up and out of the air lock! It's gone everywhere. Guess my question now is, should I leave it alone or pop the top off and give the air lock a clean and sterilise it? I'm tempted...
