  • Just a newbie brewer question? If you were to make a Piwo Grodziskie style beer. Why could you not substitute a small percentage of heavy peated 2-row for the smoked wheat bill. Still using wheat adjuncts to the grain bill? Would this not work?

Is there that much preception between Moss (peat) and Oak smoked malt?
How can I send you my e-mail addy? No idea how to do that in this forum. Don't see a PM option.
Nice article in BYO :) I had Beginner's Luck queued in my lineup, it's great having extra instructions

Hey Nosybear, not sure if this site has private messaging, but was wondering if you ever tried a vanilla bean or oak chips in your Kentucky Common. I get the molasses, nice touch.

Haven't tried either, really don't intend to. Vanilla would have been much too expensive to use in a working man's beer and oak, well, they used oak barrels but likely neutral oak from long use. Neither fit in my concept of the style but hey, it's yours - give it a try!

I actually think coconut would go better....
