Priming Sugar Substitutes / Life in a Home Brewing Desert

Great advice in this thread. I was in a similar spot and just used plain cane sugar from the grocery store with a priming calculator to dial in the right amount. Carbonation came out spot on.

Everyone is saying cane sugar, but if you are buying bagged granulated sugar there is a very good chance, and maybe even a likelihood that it is made from beets.

I use cane sugar here, beet sugar in Europe ;)

I only partial bottle my batches and I drop a domino dot in each bottle and fill
I've used DME when doing a full batch but corn sugar or corn syrup work
Before BIAB there would always have some left over wort I saved and used that as well
Never could tell the difference
I just like to try stuff

Even though cane accounts for 75% of worldwide production, it looks like beets produce slightly more here in the US. Being a southerner for most of my life, I'm more used to finding cane sugar and assumed it was the most prevalent in most places in the US but in the northern states beet sugar is more the norm. :)

I'm a Domino man myself...
Yeah I started doing the dots and never looked back
No transfer to a bottling bucket no trying to get the sugar mixed
Bottle right from the fermenter with a spring loaded bottle wand
Easy peasy

One cube per bottle? Yikes! Is that for a 22 is bomber or a 12oz-er?
