    Mash Question

Thanks for the replies. I ended up brewing Saturday morning. Started at 5 am. The moment I turned on the element it was reading 124 degrees which I knew was wrong. Temps kept fluctuating so figured it was the temp probe. At this point I just switched over to my propane system which I had not...

    Mash Question

Thanks for the link. I was actually thinking about doing the mash tonight, remove my bag then let it rest until early tomorrow morning. I could also do the mash tonight, remove my bag then set my temp for 150-152 and leave it at that temp until the morning. Not sure if one way is better than the...

    Mash Question

I've read a post a while back where brewers mash one day then boil the next. I'm not if there is a benefit other than cutting down on brewing time. Thinking about giving it a try as I will be short on time. I was planning to work a half day today so I could brew but that changed. Tommorow I...

    counterflow chiller

Thanks for the replies. I'll just stick with the IC for now. It works really well and really no need to replace. Just wanted something I didnt have to put in the wort.

    counterflow chiller

I've been on the bubble for some time trying to decide if I want to switch to a counterflow chiller. I currently use a Cuss IC and it is great but it sits on my element and when i place in my wort at the 15 min mark it drops the temps and never gets back up to a boil. It doesn't drop below 180...

    No Boil NEIPA

DME is too expensive for me to use in a 5 gal batch. That would increase my cost at least 50%- I cant see the end result being that much better to justify the cost. I'll probably try it using grains in place of DME- it would be nice to cut 1-2 hrs off of my brew day.

    No Boil NEIPA

Yeah I read through most of it but I don't want to use DME. I'm tempted to try and just do a normal mash with grains then raise to 180 and hold for 30 min then chill.

    No Boil NEIPA

Anyone brewing these? If so have a good recipe to share with the process? I pulled one of of Omega Yeast web site that seems good but just curious if there are any others brewing this way? Sanitation wise, I guess a good soak in Starsan would work. I brew on an electric system so i would need...

OG Way lower than expected - how?

I brew 5.5 gal batches (into fermenter) and i typically use 7.5 gal of water, depending on grain bill. I mash full volume (BIAB). My boil off is about .75 gal per hour. Check out priceless brewing and use his calculator to get your water amounts.

OG Way lower than expected - how?

What was the temp of the wort when checking gravity? if it's above 60 degrees then you will need to adjust for the temp difference. Most hydrometers are calibrated at 60 although I had one that was calibrated at 68. Also what size batch? 5 or 6 gal?

This one recently released by a local brewery. Not bad.

    Omega Voss Kveik

Wow that's strange. I've only used Voss once but have used Hornindal several times and liked it. I need to refer back to my notes to see what the exact temp was when i used Voss last time. May alter it up or down so see if the outcome changes.
