beer consumption

I'm just gonna stop you right there... :D:D:D
Never have "youngsters", in any era, been acutely heedful of advice of any sort given by their elders
I hear ya @J A but they're listening to somebody....drinking less, dating less, going to church more... Hell, I heard this morning that kids are scared to dance in public for fear of being caught looking silly!

wasn't there a Kevin Bacon movie about that? I say get out there and have a few, act on your loosened up judgement and maybe you'll meet the love of your life!

Kevin Bacon and his brother are both very, very good guitarists!

And when you can't meet them in your normal places, there is always the expensive dating sites;) You might even be able to be affectionate and hold hands in public...shocking LOL.

I'm going to do my part now

Anybody remember the "7 degrees of Kevin Bacon" game from the 80s? He was in so much stuff that everybody had been in a movie with him or with somebody who had worked with him, etc, etc.
One of my proudest completely passive accomplishments was to have personally rated very highly on that scale. I was only 2 degrees separated, having worked with Gary Sinise and also John C. Reilly in a Steppenwolf theater production in Chicago. Those guys both worked directly with Kevin Bacon on movies. :)

A timely landing for this article to show up in my feed..

It's a few years old so some of the author's comments are dated which will stand out like a sore thumb to brewers. Again, like so many changes in society, it's not just one thing affecting another but many minor and nuanced changes elsewhere impacting something else.....except prohibition! I don't think anything, including the Civil War, has done more long lasting damage to the USA than that misguided attempt to control American hearts and minds.

good read but much has happened since the article
a big one was of course the COVID pandemic that changed some things
I would have thought home brewing would have increased but it actually didn't much or was short lived
a lot of that is the home brew supply industry themselves
instead of concentrating on selling the fact that home brewing can be cheap and easy they prefer to push more and more expensive hardware
that appeals to fewer and fewer people
home brewing has peaked and craft beer has peaked
there is so much junk out there and the pricesare turning people off
home brewers are getting older and the beer pub scene is aging out as well
the good old days are gone nothing fresh anymore
what's the next big thing?
and pots cheaper than beer

They sure do! Hell, it's where the margins are! A faster car doesn't make you a better driver no more than a Wi-Fi enabled, glycol jacketed conical fermentation tank is going to make Teddy Firstime a better brewer.

A faster car may not make you a better driver, but horsepower forgives a multitude of sins.

My local brewery has a market every month with 'craft' vendors. Almost all are side hustles, but I've often wondered why someone doesn't throw up a home brew supply tent with easy brewing starter kits and some intermediate level stuff.
There's a variety of reasons, I haven't seen anything disagreeable, but I didn't notice anyone bring up MJ

I've seen, read or heard of data similar and I think a lot of the cut into spirits, beer and wine has to do with weed. I don't know about y'all, but I really don't like being around stoners. Not that heavy drinkers make life easier, and full disclosure I don't care what people do in the confines of their home. Some stoners are just... weird.

This too shall pass.
My local brewery has been open since '17, survived the c*vid stupidity, and seems to be doing better than ever crowd wise. So I think a lot of this is cyclical and the businesses in the industry that have not prepared themselves for downturns are going to fail. In some cases that really sucks and we've seen some big players fall recently. So even though I brew my own beer, I try to make a brewery visit when I'm able or out and about when the opportunity presents.
In the 70's, brown spirit sales were in the tank so to speak. They came roaring back and now we're seeing another pull back but it can be weathered.
