Thank you Jimmy Carter!

Indeed! Cheers! :)
Though, apparently, Senator Alan Cranston is the real hero. Lifting the federal prohibition on homebrewing was shoe-horned into a transportation bill on an amendment sponsored by Cranston. It would be interesting to know how much Carter knew about the ammendment and whether he actually supported it. It's hard to imagine that Jimmy Carter would have been an ardent advocate for beer and brewing, he being a tee-totaler. Though, of course, he may have been thinking fondly of his drunk brother Billy when he signed it into law. :D :D :D

Ah come on J A.....you know he lustted after it in his heart...

I wonder if anyone under 55 even gets that! And thanks for the background... Cranston must have been pretty young back then!

Only people who would get the reference are those who actually remember seeing cans of Billy Beer on the shelves!
Jimmy Carter will go down in history as one of the greatest humanitarians of our time, that's for sure!

Indeed an elder statesman much more popular out of office than in.

Alan Cranston was born in June 1914, and died the last day of December 2000. So at the time the bill was signed, he was middle age.

Slight correction. Mr Jimmy is OK with beer and wine. He disdains spirits. The White House was beer and wine only when he was Pres. He also appreciates traditional homesteading activities. One of the better brewers in our club took him a few bottles of White House Honey Ale when it was popular. He said he enjoyed it.
