Worst brew day so far. We brewed tripel two months previous and were sampling it plus our tripel from 2024, 2023 as well as a couple of commercial versions. We may have sampled too much because when it came time to chill the wort we didn't fully connect the counterflow chiller. The result was hot wort, probably around 200F, going into my plastic seven gallon fermenter. The fermenter melted and changed shape such that I was only able to take home 3.75 gallons. Transferred the wort to my other plastic fermenter at home the next afternoon (Wednesday). Pitched one pack of Cellar Science Berlin yeast around 3:00pm. Airlock was bubbling by the next morning (Thursday). Thankfully, no one was hurt and the wort tasted and smelled good, i.e. it didn't taste or smell like plastic. Had a good cold break in spite of the slow cooling time. |
