So , What does one get if they use bread yeast for there beer ?

Welcome to forum. This is a great place. But jokes aside. You’d get beer. May not be a Flavor you’d desire but it will make beer. Ferment like an ale

We often call beers that have a good mild flavor as being "clean". Bread yeast does not give a clean character beer, it has several flavors that are not normally expected in beer. That being said, it would still have alcohol and still be beer. It might even be drinkable.

Homebrew during prohibition had a well deserved reputation for being awful. Homebrew during prohibition was fermented with bread yeast.
Back then I wonder if the average home brewer even knew that there was a difference between bread yeast and beer yeast. But, as we could tell from some posts during the pandemic lockdown, taste wasn't the primary reason they brewed.

Thank U for that amazing quick response!
And now one more question , I have a batch of coconut porter in the fermenter
Its been eight days. Original SG was 10.48 and now is 10.30.
That seems to me that the yeast is not working well!
I just transferred to second fermenter garage temp is around 60degrees.

What yeast did you use? , that is really cold for an ale yeast.

Did it stop going down or did you just decide 8 days was enough?

I would have just let it ride.

How did you measure your SG?
Hydrometer? Refractometer?

I used a refractometer and I'm using a packet of S-04 yeast with a starter about 2pints of water and 2 tablespoons of sugar.
This is a five gal batch and no bubbles for the last few days !

HEY ! I'm new at this, please tell me whats up with the refractometer conversion ?

Hello :) sure thing. Refractometer's don't work correctly with alcohol present. Convert your OG and FG into Brix (some refractometers have a Brix scale opposite the SG). Then use the calculator I linked above and enter the OG in Brix and the SG in Brix that your refractometer reads and it'll convert to the actual final gravity

Here's a SG to Brix converter:

@hoppie
It's a common mistake and thats what we are here for.
To help you :)
Your actual SG is somewhere around 1.019
