After talking with some of the members on Zoom (that was fun!), we decided to have announcements about some of the forum features that others may not be aware of.

The first one on the list is the “Report this post” button just below each post.

Now, some of you have used this button when the rare spam post comes up, but many of you probably never noticed it before. Clicking that button alerts the mod team to look at something, and you are the reporter would remain anonymous. This is very useful if there is spam of course- but it’s also useful for questionable posts that seem like it could be spam, a controversial post/topic, some harassment, profanity, or political statements. This is also very handy if you see an avatar that is over the line, politically or otherwise against our rules like obscenity/profanity. You can give us a brief explanation in the box, like “Political comment”, “Avatar is racist”, etc but no need for more than that.

There is no downside to clicking “report”. If it is determined to be a legitimate post, the mod team may take no action or if it is something questionable we can delete and let the person know why it was deleted. We always act on these reports (even if it by taking no obvious action at all), and never ignore them. Again, it is completely anonymous so no one will know who reported it (except for the mod team).

Recently we did have an issue with some political nastiness, and we lost a couple valuable members over this. Had the very first post that went sideways been reported, we may have been able to avoid this rift. We are all about community in this forum, and do not want differences in ideology to take us away from that.

Please let us know if you have any questions, comments, or concerns about any of this.
