I accidentally bought a 680 g bag of "Bobs Red Mill Old Fashioned Steel Cut Oats", or per the bag aka Irish Oats or Pinhead Oats (trying to make bacon butterscotch cookies - which are yummy by the way). Any suggestions for how I can prepare these oats to use in a brew? Boil? Steep? Or straight to the composter? Suggestions?

Cook them for about an hour in at least twice as much water as oats by volume - more is better.. They take 45 minutes to be ready for the table - an hour should work for brewing. Or again, save yourself the trouble and use either quick oats or the pre-gelatinized variety sold in brew shops. You can add those directly to the mash without the extra work.
