Looking deep into the glass

I know a bar tender who served in the military and was stationed in Germany. He had a few wild stories, of course involving consuming beer from the huge 1L mugs. He would be hung over now and then. They had a saying if you had a hang over:

"It is too bad you looked too deeply into the glass..."

The other night I was looking into my beer glass and saw this:
