Email from Northern Brewer. They say seasonal release. Any idea what this is sourced from? Not seeing much information from their website other than it looks German.

That sounds like the perfect recipe design for this yeastLooks like a run-of-the-mill Continental lager yeast. I did run through the Schwarzbier recipe provided and it looks pretty solid, either as extract or converted to all-grain.
