Hops in the Mash

I haven't brewed in a while. Talking to a brewer recently he said he adds hops in the mash. Have any of you done this? What's the advantage?

never have, I would imagine it would give aroma just like dry hopping. only thing is that you would kill alot of it durring the boil.

Yup I've herd recently of brewers adding hops like Sazz in the Mash. Something to do with introducing thiols in the wort that t certain yeast strains and Thiol releasing Enzymes then release these into the beer.
