We host a brewer group once a month and do beer education topics.
This also includes creating recipes and brewing them to then later, bring in and compare.
Our meeting this month was on tasting and developing a Group Pale ale.
We had about 10 commercial examples to sample through and discuss. I'm not going to lie, by the end of the sampling, I think we lost about 80% of the participants to silly banter and chit chat.
We still had enough input to get a general recipe together based on things we liked in the sampling.
The majority favored the OB Dales Pale Ale and our recipe is heavily leaning towards that.
What Say You?

I don't know how close the recipe will be to the original (assuming your hops blend is some mix of Cascade, Centennial and Comet as per OB's web site??), but your group made the right choice. That beer is fantastic. Far better than Sierra Nevada Pale Ale...at least in my opinion.

Would love to know what other beers you sampled.

The Blend, is in the comments on the recipe bottom and is Cascade, Centennial and Simcoe.
Simcoe was used as the bittering hop as well as it's a low Cumulene hop.
The Beers were;
Old Speckled Hen
SNPA
OB Dales Pale Ale
Kona Big Wave
Maine Beer Co Peeper
Missing Mountain Wickle Twickle
Rhinegiest Pretty Bird
Brooklyn Pale Ale
Gumball head Pale wheat
and a few others that were just awful.
Everyone brought in the different beers and obviously some of them weren't the proper style, but we drank them :)

I don't know any of them.
I need to go out more :)

Love the experiment though

Oooo...how was the Old Speckled Hen? I bet that stood out like a sore thumb.

I agree they aren't all "to style", but that is a nice selection. I can see why people were getting a little off track by the end!

Well I'd drink it, sounds like a great beer.
