I am finally putting together a floating diptube for fermenting in a keg. I wish I had a 10 gallon keg so I could start with 5.5 gallons and then use the floating diptube to transfer.

I have this one:

Do you use one? Does it clog as easily as I expect? Any tips, tricks, words of advice?

I have those kind and also the float at 2.0 which I like a lot more. I’ve had maybe two clogs on mine over the years that I’ve been using them. It’s easy though to fix that just blow some CO2 in and let everything settle.

I’ve used that one for a few years. I had no issues with it. I have one of the filters on it.

Yes if you are using for fermentation.

For dispenser from a keg, no. Had nothing but problems. Tubing get tangled and holds the float out and nothing but foam. Sometimes shaking the keg would fix it, sometimes not

I haven’t had that issue in a keg fermenting or serving. I do cut it to length so maybe that has helped me??
Not once the beer starts to disappear, you have extra line. Just drove me insane.

I took a tube bender and made a u-turn in the dip tube, cut it and reattached internally. It leaves behind the last inch of beer and glorky goo

I only use a dip tube for serving...

I have an All Rounder with a floating dip tube. It has a filter which helps prevent clogs. I've only had one clog with it but, take that with a grain of salt, because I don't often dry hop.

I also have a FloatIt 2.0 (from Homebrewer Labs) for each of my serving kegs. It has a double filter inlet (DFI). That would work very in a fermentor as well.

I've used generic amazon diptubes for fermentation and serving but the FloatIt 2.0 is the best one and worth the price. I used to ferment and dispense with floating diptubes but now I transfer to a serving keg with the normal diptube

I use one of these in an allrounder.
After many brews, I only ever had one issue.
It actually got hung up on the side of the fermenter a bit in the yeast sludge. That was a rough transfer, but only ever had the issue once, and have never had it clog up (sometimes I dry hop heavily).
