Fermonster Minimesh strainer

Okay, it isn't necessary to do this though. The sludge (trub) will have no effect on the beer if it goes in the fermenter. There is a greater risk of introducing infection to the beer. I remember doing something like this in my first few batches, my last 80 something batches I haven't.

I happened across this picture from about 7 years and 80+ batches ago.
Thinking that I didn't all that crud going into the fermenter, I tried to filter it out.
At the time wiser, more experienced brewers here on the forum explained that there was no need for this.
I haven't done so since ;) just thought I would share.
Oh my gosh too, looking at that glass carboy gives me shivers... that time I was fortunate to have only lost a small part of one finger :eek:

I guess I'm not one of those wiser brewers. I still do this every batch. Mainly to trap the hops and have more head space in the fermenter.

Fair enough, if you need the space, that makes total sense. Different courses!

Thanks. Timeless photo. I will forgo the filtering on my next brew.
