Burning has never occurred and I always have the power set to automatic. The device is supposed to regulate that itself, that is one of the advantages of this appliance.

supposed to are the operative words in the 2nd sentence. Like @Donoroto said, maybe the reduced flow is a contributor here. I think having to reset the kettle several times, combined with the remaining residue points to an overheat condition.

Way late to this but I've had a bunch of systems over the years and I have a Grainfather S40 currently and it works well for my needs. It doesn't have the bells and whistles but it's 240v (The bottom can scorch a bit) with just temp and timer but I like it.
