Larry, I was wondering if there was a way to set a default value in the hydrometer temp correction calculator. My hydrometer is calibrated to 60 F, and every time I correct for temp, I have to type in the calibration number. I know this is a minor thing, and it would probably be easier to just buy a different hydrometer, but I've had this one for about 15 years and I've made great beer with it. Its no big deal if its a problem, like I said, It's a minor thing. Thanks.
Re: Hydrometer calibration default Look under your equipment profile: http://www.brewersfriend.com/homebrew/profile/equipment There are fields for hydrometer calibration and offset. These only come in on the Brew Log entry screen. Are you also meaning the stand alone calculator? http://www.brewersfriend.com/hydrometer-temp/
Re: Hydrometer calibration default Yes, I only use the calculator. I don't use the brew log and am unfamiliar with how the correction would be used. That's my fault for not looking deeper into it. I should have known you had factored this in. I use the recipe builder and love the ease of formulating a recipe, but when it comes to brewing, I'm a bit old school. Once the recipe is set, I just brew how I have always done it. I have used your recipe template for about a year now, and even after you started the recipe builder, I still fill out the template by hand, and use that for ingredient purchase, as well as the brew session. I tried printing the recipe, but preferred the layout of the template as it had designated areas for notes and hydrometer readings. Now that would be a feature I would use. A printed recipe in the format of the template. Just an idea. Thanks for the response and I will investigate the brew log further.
Re: Hydrometer calibration default Flattered that you have been a long time user of our printable forms! If you want to give the automated version a try, look for the big green Brew button on the recipe page. No more paper and pencil or print outs to mess with. Keeps all your logs in one place, automatically calculates real ABV, efficiency (pre-boil, and brew house), attenuation, etc. Also helps with water chemistry and tracking the mash as it happens. We'll keep this thread open as a note to make the settings on the hydrometer calculator sticky. It would use a browser cookie, which wouldn't stay around forever, but would save you the headache of switching the value most times.
This has been released, now the stand alone hydrometer calculator stores your calibration in a browser cookie for next time. If you clear your cache or switch browsers it goes away.
Thanks Larry. I used this when I brewed this weekend and it worked great. I'm sure it was a lot of work for you to save me some time and I appreciate it.
