Hello Brewer's Friend users and forum community,

This post has most recently been updated on October 25th.

In order to continue to improve transparency, and establish a stronger connection with our forum users, we've decided to keep a live list of the currently prioritized tickets. These may include open tickets from users, pending changes, and some teasing of new features. Each ticket will be updated as it moves to Release or Beta, as this post will be a living document.

In order to keep our backlog and priorities clear, this list will focus on tickets that are currently in progress, or are at the top of the priority list to be addressed next as time permits. Larger projects like the mash guidelines, mobile apps, and modernization of the site will remain as separate posts, but will be included here for completeness.

In Progress

Mobile Apps Android & iOS-

We're hoping for internal alpha testing to be available at the start of October, public beta testing to follow.

Mash Guidelines Overhaul -

Alpha 80%. Once internal testing is completed, testing will move to beta via the users on the Beta sub-forum for at least a two week period. Interested? Contact myself or @Yooper! Keep replies to the respective thread please

Inventory & Shopping list Yeast Date -

Adding the calendar picker to the yeast date property, this will better support users interested in keeping track of their "stale" ingredients and keep syntax consistent. Release paused until Attenuation is completed.

Tank Logs -

Minor changes to the tank log and brew session tank interaction to better support multiple tanks per brew.

Recipe Builder Attenuation & FG-

Improve support for high attenuation recipes, such as seltzers, ciders, meads, wines, saisons etc. Remove error on saving with FG below 1.000. Change recipe attenuation behavior, adds real attenuation, changes behavior for fermentability of sugar ingredients such as cane sugar, honey, etc. Alpha 80%. Will test with beta users, particularly interested in brewers that produce meads and seltzers.

Group vs user recipes -

Change in behavior, separating Author and Group sharing. You will be able to remain as the recipe Author, and still share the recipe with a group. Status: Alpha 70%. Further internal testing and revisions are still needed. No beta testing.

To-do Priority tickets:

Recipe Editor Target & Efficiency type -

In order to improve communication between brewers, and match industry/community standards, we will move the dropdown selection from target volume type, to efficiency type. This will be equivalent, as we will continue to offer mash efficiency to those users that prefer it, but going forward at some point the only batch size will be fermentor. This has been put on Pause until the recipe builder is updated to support boil steps directly, specifically a volume top off and whirlpool step is needed.

Yeast properties -

Just like was done recently for fermentables, we will be restructuring the yeast ingredients, and adding more properties such as abv tolerance (%), min/max attenuation, POF +, glucoamylase+, cell count, and more structured categorization for different types of yeasts, and bacteria.

Recipe Editor More Section -

As more things have been added over time to the recipe editor, some have been added to the more section and its purpose has become muddy. The alternative formula shall remain, but will move to dropdowns and radio buttons instead of showing all formula values simultaneously. Diastatic Power is shown in fermentables, and so will be removed from More. Hop utilization, no chill, and water profile shall be moved to Hops, an upcoming Boil section, and the water sections respectively.

Recipe Scaling -

The Recipe scaling feature will be improved to support changes in batch size, equipment, and efficiency simultaneously. The recipe stats for OG/fg/ibu/srm will be shown as a before/after for quick comparison before committing to the changes.

Late Additions: Fermentor -

The ABV for late additions: Fermentor are not quite working as intended. The recipe builder will be updated to take these into consideration properly, and the brew sessions will have a pre-filled log entry for these fermentable additions similar to how dry hopping works.

Extract and Grain conversion calculator -

A new calculator is being created that will allow users, and homebrew shops to quickly and easily convert between LME, DME, and base malt. Brewhouse efficiency will be accounted for.

Mash Temperature determines Attenuation -

At some point in the past, our feature of the fermentability of the recipes grain bill being determined by the mash temperature was lost. The code has been re-implemented on beta quickly, but due to overlap with other updates it has been put back on Pause for now. This will most likely not be released until after the Mash Guidelines overhaul is complete, possibly also dependent on the update to the yeast properties to better support min attenuation and max attenuation.

Grain Bill "Goal" seek -

Currently when using the Goal seek feature to adjust the grain bill amounts to hit your intended OG, the percentages change from % weight, to % sugar (which takes each grains PPG into account). While this is useful for the purposes of the goal seek function, it does not get reverted back to the weights, which tends to cause confusion for users.

We hope that you've found this information useful, and the pending priority features are of interest.

Please let us know if you have any feedback, questions, concerns, or issues not listed that you feel should be bumped in priority.

Thank you for your continued support!

The current pipeline has been updated on October 25th,

The following points have been removed, as they have been released.

Brew Session API -

Expanded more variables to the brew session API, this will include current properties such as OG, FG, ABV etc as well as all of the recipe api info. As several digital tap lists have released recently, this will better support your taplist data by using brew session measurements. Approved, should release soon.

Brew Steps -

Add recipe data to respective steps, such as strike temperature, time, gravity samples etc. Data is taken from recipe, and mash guidelines instead of QWR wherever possible. Alpha 90%. Once internal testing is completed, this will be released directly. released directly.

Inventory import/export -

Currently ingredient import/export is restricted to pro users in group inventory. This will be added to personal inventories, and available to all paid memberships (premium, premium +, pro, and lifetime). Alpha 30%. This will be released directly.

Quick Water Requirements -

The QWR steps are being slightly rearranged to be in chronological order, and include some more information such as pre boil volume, postboil volume, and fermenter volume. The targeted batch size is bolded. Accepted, should be released shortly, no beta testing.

Inventory / Shopping list Required Fields-

We will indicate required fields for inventory/shopping lists when adding ingredients.
