I haven't brewed this in a couple of years, so of course I ended up rebuilding it.
I'm posting mainly because the "New" American versions are done with citrusy hops and not really British any longer.
I'm on the fence to brew it as above or change out the hops and drop the "British" in the title.
Thoughts?
Brian

Looks like something I’d drink and buy if it’s on tap at a bar.

I was looking at building the same style of beer! Heard a podcast talking about it last week or the week before and i had never heard of it before. I wont look at yours and will work up one to compare!

Just worked this up.

went with 2r, victory, wheat, and a touch of vienna since i dont have MO.

went with a blend of cashmere, loral, and cascade for the hops! what a cool style!!!

Hey we hit very similar stats, I would prob drop my wheat down a bit to lower the overall OG. I think your GP+victory should be fairly similar to my 2r+victory+vienna.

hops wise we hit similar IBUs, but i went with more new world hops. what i saw the new versions of this are using new world hops(even in the UK) i felt that the combo of Loral(new world noble), cashmere, and cascade fit the bill. But i also do not have any traditional nobles on hand.

I set mine to San Diego because i stock it, but i totally forgot about Apex London ale. that might work better. Kolsch yeast might also work really nicely with the hop profile!!!

And that's the struggle.
I really would love to do an American version with something like Amarillo and Cali ale yeast, but then it's in no way British.
I ordered the GP specifically for this beer and it can easily be a single malt in a beer, but I added the victory for some underlying toast and bready characters.
Your idea to add Vienna should compliment the 2 row nicely and the wheat should give you a rocky head for a pretty beer
I would likely up the Vienna and decrease the 2 row as you'll need more malt backbone. Although I haven't used that 2 row before so I'm unaware of how malty it is.
I'll likely Biofine this to speed up the clearing, or it could lager for a couple of weeks and it'll clear up all by itself. Just depends on when it needs to go on.

So my Brewer calls me about an hour ago and says, hey, I brewed the Golden ale you just worked up, but I used Amarillo instead of Fuggle.
What yeast do you want to use?
Too funny!
We have 1st Gen Cali Ale yeast under a shandy right now, so there you go!
Now I'll just have to change the style to American Golden Ale.
Cheers,
Brian

i would leave it as a british golden ale! the malt and general idea/feel are spot on for the "current style" lol

Hey! Wouldn't you look at that!

Its a really interesting style. I have made golden ales before. And pale ale before. Just never been into this middle ground between them! Lol

But also on my recipe I was really trying to replicate the floor malted English grains! Mixing some old world and new world hops!
It's a fun style to experiment with. I prefer newer hop varieties than the English standards, but a good malt backbone is always super important. Maris Otter is my favorite SMaSH malt because it does so much work on it's own
