Looking at some of the recipes that have been shared, I came across this one
http://www.brewersfriend.com/homebrew/r ... day-porter, and was wondering if any one had brewed something similar. The only change that I would be making is changing the yeast to WLP004, since I already have some waiting for a starter.

I personally like that recipe, only a pound more grain than I normally use in a normal beer, not going to be a very thick porter but should be good with the spices, the hops part of it leads me to believe it will have no hop taste after it conditions so the spice will definitely be important, the yeast will only be important to the person brewing weather you want a thick or thin mouth and lots of alcohol or not, looks like this person did not want the high alcohol so your right just use what you like, good luck :D
