Does the Hop Use drop down impact IBU calc, or is it for information purposes only? Also, which do you use for a mid boil addition, ie, flavoring @ 30 mins? ( can you add "flavoring")
Re: Hop use drop down. The Hops Use field only changes IBUs for FHW and Mash options. First Wort is given a 20 minute boil time, and Mash is given a 5 minute boil time. A 30 minute hops addition will contribute substantial bitterness, so I would suggest marking that as a boil addition. Aroma additions are generally for 5 minutes or less, but they are treated the same in terms of IBUs.
