If for profitability, I’d agree. But I don’t see most, if any folks here worrying about profitability. I maintain that you can make great beer with or without all the “rabbit hole” worries, it’s just how much time and effort does one want to invest for making great beer better. Me, I’m fine with great beer.

We need a “Rabbit Hole” section in the forums! I mean why not? We have a “Beginners” section.
 
Neither this nor your OP were very specific on the matter of actually testing pH. Did you use a reliable and calibrated meter to test pH?
Yes, it was calibrated directly before use. Intended pH was 5, measured pH at room temperature was 4.46.
