I have similar issue with my Cascade- The crowns are embedded with real, live grass. It’s Texas. It takes either heavy watering or a miracle from God to grow grass here. I guess the grass likes the drip irrigation I put in for the hops. I even harvested rhizomes this year but I got nothing for dealing with grass growing up through the crown.

Hops are weeds too, they'll be fine!

Perennials. My favorite kind of crop producing plant.
