    Going Commando

I thought that title would get a laugh! I always do brew in a bag in a 10-gallon Blichman. The last time I brewed about two months ago I remember washing out my bag with the garden hose after I had dumped all of the grain and then I always hang it up to dry on a couple of hooks near the area...

    Fermenter options

I brew about 6 times per year. I have been using the Big Mouth plastic fermenter. Works fine and I place it in a cheap dorm fridge with a Inkbird controller. I am feeling like I should probably replace this soon as it has 15 brews from me and unknown number from the guy I bought it from. I...

    Lost Power

Haha. Turned out just fine. It's beer!

    No Carbonation!

I don't think so as the tank pressure has not gone down that I can see. If there was a leak, I would assume the bottle would be empty by now after a week. It is just odd that I have pressure to dispense, but not enough to get decent carbonation. Maybe I will take it apart and reconnect?

    No Carbonation!

Have done this many times previously. Flushed the keg with CO2. Transferred my English Brown Ale to my 5 gallon keg on Friday morning. Attached the tank and put it in my kegerator. I left it set at my usual 7-8 PSI as I found that gives me good serving carbonation. I had to travel so when I...

    Lost Power

I live in MS. We have been without power for 5 days. I put an english brown ale with White Labs - English Ale Yeast WLP002 into fermenter on Jan 11. Had temp set for 66 degrees. Well on Jan 24 we lost power. It has not been frozen, but I bet it is down to 40s since. Hoping for power by...

    No bag!

I haven't brewed in 6 months. Lots of personal stuff going on. Finally got a chance to pull out my gear and clean everything off. Getting ready to have a brew day on Saturday or Sunday depending upon my honey-do list. Can't find my Brew bag. I have some vague memory that it had a couple small...

    Super Specific Timing

Good to know. I didn't think about waiting to dry hop until fermentation is over but I suppose at 5 days I'm pretty close. I did take a reading and it was close to done. So if you made the same recipe twice and one time you dry hopped for 2 days in the next for 3 days do you think you would...

    Super Specific Timing

Brewed the same recipe now for a 3rd time and I got to thinking. The recipe says to dry hop at 5 days. Should I have done that exactly at the same number of hours after brewing each time or am I over thinking this? Do professional brewers do everything exactly at the same timing each batch...

Goal: No moving hoses during brew day

True. It does get pretty cool quickly with that plate chiller. Always been a little nervous to go straight to fermenter. I will try it next time.

Goal: No moving hoses during brew day

I can get down to 3 valves, but it seems like it should be 2. I have 2 sources (either from chiller or from pump). Would be great to have a simple T in there with one way valves to reduce hoses. They make those for beer?

Goal: No moving hoses during brew day

I am using single Blichmann 10 gallon with boil coil doing BIAB. Have chugger pump and plate chiller, whirlpool port and ultimate sparge arm (yeah that is overkill for BIAB, but I owned it already and haven't researched a better solution for recirculation). Excuse the mess, but see attached...

    Quick Connect Fittings

I have one set of quick connect fittings that are an absolute nightmare to put on and take off (I have to tap the collar with a hammer). I have soaked them in hot water and PBW thinking there was beer/wort in them, but no change. Tried some keg lube on the ball bearings with not much change...

    Hop Spider Question

Finished up brewing last night. While whirlpooling, I typically pull my hop spider out so it is not in the way for the whirlpool action. It takes me probably 5 minutes for that to drain. It just drips. I got me thinking (this recipe only had 2 oz of hops). If it is only dripping because...

    Water Chemistry target profiles

Maybe I am doing this wrong. I added a couple "target profiles" for brown ales I want to hit under My Brewing/My Profile/Water Profiles. In the water chemistry section of a brew session, I assumed source profile (Abbeville-profile I created from a water test) was my source water (tap, ro...

    Yeast question

Live in Mississippi. 2 hour round trip to local brewery shop. Going to order online. Most sites say that they can't guarantee yeast stays cold (understandable at 94 degrees every day). Thinking about switching to dry yeast for this batch. I have brewed 6 times with liquid yeast and happy...

    Trick to cleaning hoses

All hoses that I use in the process. But mostly ones for circulating the wort or transferring from kettle to fermenter and then from fermenter to keg. I use pbw and circulate it through everything after a brew day. But it would even be nice to initially wash the hoses out with clean water...

    Chocolate Peppermint Stout (With Liquor)

I recently made a french toast porter with Amoretti products (someone on here recommended them). Turned out fantastic. Maybe look at this: https://amoretti.com/products/peppermint-extract-ws and add to a standard chocolate stout?

    Trick to cleaning hoses

I don't feel like I get the hoses very clean compared to the rest of my equipment. Especially ones with the quick connectors or the beer ball locks. Thinking about rigging up a hot water fitting system where I can connect each hose when I am done with it to purge it with hot water at high...
