    Jumble pale

Well, it's been a week and it's only at 1.014 and tasting rather banana-y. It's in my basement at around 17 degC, so this might be a tad cold for the US05 maybe. Hopefully it's still going and just taking a long time as it's on the colder end.... and also clean up that banana taste!

    Jumble pale

Well, it's brewday, just waiting for it to hit a boil. Fun!

    Jumble pale

Thanks Mark. Further to this point, and just to throw it out there..... I wonder, could the use of Protafloc pull some of that haze out and therefore give the dry hop less stuff to cling to?

    Jumble pale

Okay, I've re-edited it based on suggestions.... and a bit of a stab in the dark with a finger in the air : ) https://www.brewersfriend.com/homebrew/recipe/view/1051079/home-beer I've also changed the grain bill exchanging the rolled oats for crystal wheat and realised I had some Vienna, so...

    Jumble pale

Thanks everyone for your really speedy replies! I like the Magnum 60min addition, so I will update the recipe later and reply when I've done so. Ben, I like that idea of splitting them and having a healthy dry hop so I might try that. For the grain bill I'm now pondering lowering the pale ale...

    Jumble pale

Hi. Feeling anxious about posting a recipe out there, but I'd love a little feedback please! What I'm after: a strong-ish hoppy pale ale for home. I've called it "Jumble Pale" as a play on jumble sale, as I have a random mix of hops in the freezer ha...

    Grainfather plates in Robobrew

Thanks so much Bob & Craig, that's so incredibly helpful.

    Grainfather plates in Robobrew

Thanks everyone for your thoughts. I've seen on YT the grain crushing and also conditioning of the grain helping with efficiency. I've not got a crusher and order mine crushed, so I suppose it would be a toss up between getting the new plates vs a grain crusher. Hmm! Also saw the BIAB, for some...

    Grainfather plates in Robobrew

Hi, Thanks for the reply. I used rice hulls on the last two brews, which were an improvement on the first two. The first two really struggled with recirc, but with the last one on the GF plates the pump flow was going pretty fast, defo the best yet. Needed 1 stir to settle the grain bed down...

    Grainfather plates in Robobrew

Hi, I am 4 brews in on my Robobrew Brewzilla v3.1.1 and very much enjoying it. However, my first 3 beers suffered both stuck mashes, sparges and low efficiency, but the third was the best of the 3 in terms of hitting the numbers, but still quite low. On my 4th beer I borrowed the top and bottom...

Water volumes... my inefficiency or Brewers Friend's!?

Awesome. I'm definitely still finding my way with it. Massive stuck mash on first one, second was better and third brew yesterday was the best so far. I gave the mash a stir every 20 mins or so which appeared to help. It drains really slowly though when sparging. I'm also not sure I'm a fan of...

Water volumes... my inefficiency or Brewers Friend's!?

Thanks! It's a Robobrew Brewzilla v3.1.1. Only used it 3 times.... my last set up was DIY with two large pans, which I always somehow managed to get by with. Putting some figures into the equipment profile has already made some changes I can see on the auto pre & post boil calcs. I've been...

Water volumes... my inefficiency or Brewers Friend's!?

Thanks guys for the comments / suggestions. I’ll do what you suggested and hopefully will work it out from there. I used to brew a lot but have had a 5 year gap and using different equipment. Funny thing is I never paid so much attention to water volumes as a calculated effort, rather I always...

Water volumes... my inefficiency or Brewers Friend's!?

I thought I had things down until I delved into water volumes a little further and now can't seem to understand how the recipe editor works! I'm attempting to make a 23l batch of beer... specifically 23l in the fermentor. The recipe I'm using calls for a pre boil size of 27L, with a total hop...
