    Mash Kettle advice please ?

Thanks Austin, your so right, don't know why I was so fixated with sticking rigidly to the recipes and trying to get a system to fit, glad you pointed it put to me. I know I'm still very green when I look at your list of things impacting a beers flavour, I have so much to learn! Thanks again.

    Mash Kettle advice please ?

Still a newbie in brewing terms, I've done some small batches of all grain brews. 1st was undrinkable, poor temperature control, but now I understand the process a bit better I want to brew a bigger all grain batch. Refractometer advice please

Thanks for your comments. I'm sure I will get used to the correct method for taking and interpreting readings. It's not long ago that I was totally puzzled by hydrometer readings! Reassuring to know that they are actually used.

    Refractometer advice please

Wondered if anyone has experience of these devices and any advice to give regarding their effectiveness. I've just done a 1 gallon stout and lost a fair bit of wort with the hydrometer readings. I'm planning to do other small batch brews and have read conflicting stuff on the internet about...

Chocolate Stout Recipe for a beginner !

Thanks I'm happy to do just one batch for now, and thanks for your detailed instructions. I do have a thermometer but not a 6litre water bottle, was thinking I could get by with an empty 5litre one that i bought for the other brews. I will see if I can buy a bigger one. With your method and...

Chocolate Stout Recipe for a beginner !

Hi, I'm so green to homebrew I must be organic! I've made 3 batches of beer so far all from extract kits. Now that I've got the hang of things and got rid of the fear factor, I decided I would try an all grain brew. Decided to just do a 5litre batch so if I mess up then there's not too many...
