    Biscuit batch #2

Force carbed and a bit young but #3 is the best yet of a good bunch. The upped biscuit and amber malt are giving me that nutty toasty taste up front. I think Ahnatum gives something lovely but the hops schedule on batch 3 is good, a close match and cheaper. Just want a shade more sweetness, so...

    Leaking Fitting

Gladly, they might be a bit fiddly but they have seen me through a fair few brews now. Your right, I have storage just now and co2 is spensive compared to sugar if pennies get tight or plans go awry. Just feeling a bit spendy on brew kit and thinking to myself to cut back/regain a bit but I...

    Leaking Fitting

It's great, I realised by priming in the bottle that I was basically creating a load more yeast that would have to drop and adding another 2 weeks before much conditioning would happen. I can have this pretty much carbed in a couple of hours, just need to find a cheaper gas source and a buyer...

    Leaking Fitting

It's my first keg, so no idea if it's standard practice here too. Seller got back to me offering to pay for a new disconnect to be sent from another seller because he is on holiday, so I feel he is trustworthy. All in all, happy to have joined the corny club, this thing is sweet now I have it...

    Leaking Fitting

I'm willing to give the seller the benefit of the doubt in my case but yeah I'd be annoyed too if it was all the seals or multiple barrels. Found this while hunting around, might be handy if you have a lot to do. http://www.homebrewfinds.com/2010/12/bulk-keg-o-rings-at-mcmaster.html

    Leaking Fitting

Was the "O" ring, a bit miffed as it should have been checked and the seller is now on holiday but it was a good price and I'm now set, with beer and happy

    what chiller to use

I use a home made counterflow chiller. It's about 3.5m (11.5') of 8mm (0.138") copper pipe inside some garden hose and two T pieces. I was going to solder the t pieces to the pipe with end caps but used corks and shrink tube as a stopgap, they haven't leaked so I haven't replaced them. It's...

    Leaking Fitting

Fixed it!! and yeah will get a spare or two, just didn't expect problems on a reconditioned system. Luckily had an O-ring kit in the workshop checked the size online and luckily had one to suit. For those who are interested the size is: Nominal ID: 0.424" OD: 0.625" Width:0.103" Thanks for the...

    Leaking Fitting

Thanks for the reply, pretty sure it's either the fitting or the post o-ring. Should all be new rings as is reconditioned keg and all look fine but will take a closer look. Tried a dab of vaseline but no go still, I suspect it might be the black disconnect itself

    Leaking Fitting

Just finished kegging and force carbing my brew in my new cornie. All going well and after clear up decided to try a sneaky sample. It came with a pre assembled party tap and try as I might I can't get it to seal properly on the keg. The ring clicks into place but beer is gushing out from under...

    Anybody do workout while brewing?

Thunderwagn pretty much hit the nail on the head. I have been a circus performer for all of my professional life, acrobatics at first but mostly trapeze. The training is pretty tough but all that is needed is a pull up bar and your own body weight. Weights can be very useful to isolate...

What are your favorite hops and why?

Ahtanum just tried them recently and really like as a background late addition and dry hop. Saaz and cascade too, lurvley!

brewers edge all in one elc brewer

I totally get wanting to buy a pre-made system and that price isn't too bad were it that for the postage and customs would kill it for me where I am. I love to tinker too so the build for me is as fun as the brewing, pretty well setup workshop wise so have been thinking about something like this.

    Faster/cheaper way to clean bottles?

Just switched to sodium percarbonate as a no rinse sanitiser, 1tsp per litre and use within 1 hour. Haven't tried it but found this too:

Yeast for dry hopped pale ale

More to do with osmosis than ph as far as I understand it, a high og liquid won't let the yeast rehydrate as well. Try a speriment if you don't believe me, pitch to syrup then to fv, don't blame me for the stuck fv.

    Biscuit batch #2

Tried to grow salad in north west Australia once, should have just hooked it up to the tap direct :-) My friend has the opposite problem, west Scotland and a cool climate. She said she got about 2oz this year (1st) so I have hopes it will be better the second year. Planning on bittering with a...

    I brewed today!

Got a thing for Maris Otter, grown on the rain drenched, mad little Island I call home lol. Look's like I will be back in Oz in 2019, got offered a job there and hopefully can do 6 months here, six months there. If that happens I will need two setups and would love to try the NZ malts and hops...
