Ability to add more than one acid in the Water Calculator

My tap water is very hard, so I like to use enough CRS until my SO4 levels are right, then additionally add phosphoric acid to to get the HCO3 and pH levels right. However BF only allows for a single acid for the mash water in the calculator.

If I add CRS in the calculator, and then subsequently add phosphoric acid in the ingredients section of the recipe builder to adjust pH, the app removes the effects of the CRS and replaces it with the Phosphoric, even though the CRS remains in the ingredients list. With no warning that this has happened. This has lead to me over-acidifying my water.

Can the app be changed either to allow multiple acids in the water calculator, or to not remove the effect of acid added in the water calculator when additional acids are added in the ingredients?

Or is there another way to achieve what I'm trying to do?

That’s a great question and I’ll see what we can do.

I don’t know much about CRS (we don’t have it available in the US), so can you explain why you use CRS to get the So4 levels right, and then use phosphoric acid to get the bicarbonate right? I don’t understand that so it would be helpful if I could get the correct first.

Hi Yooper, thanks for the response. AMS/CRS is a carbonate reducing solution for hard water. It's a dilution of food grade hydrochloric and sulfuric acids. It works well, but the reaction with the carbonates leaves behind chloride and sulphate. If I use enough to neutralise the bicarbonate, it pushes the SO4 too high. So I add as much CRS as I can to get the SO4 right, then use phosphoric acid to finish the job of reducing the HCO3 and hitting my pH target. Hope that helps and makes sense?

We are still exploring this, and I’ve added it to our tracking list of features. I asked if it would be straightforward, and apparently doing this can break something else right now. So the developer is working on it and I have no timeline on it at this point.
