Yeah I will keep it in primary a bit longer than initially intended - this is fine with my timeline since I’m going to force carbonate in my corny keg and don’t have to rely as much on bottling and conditioning.
I have also done a bit more reading since my first post. It appears that some...
Hi there - thanks for the input! No, I brewed on Saturday. It’s since returned to around 20c (as of early this Monday morning, at least). With only two days in I’m certain there’s still a few days to go. I am hesitant to open my fermenter now that high krausen has passed. Normally I ferment...
Hi all,
A quick question regarding fermentation temperature for my latest brew.
I brewed up a beer for my annual Easter potluck a few days ago. I used Novalager for the second time, as the first time I used it I got pretty satisfactory results. However, this time around I realised that the...
Just an update on this -- beer reached 1.016 and the yeast seemed to kick it there. I chilled down last night and it's already beginning to clarify. A glorious, clean, and relatively well balanced cream ale! Only thing is that the pH is maybe a bit low at 3.8, but I have read that this is fairly...
Indeed there is a ways to go.
I am checking it with a simple graduated cylinder/hydrometer setup and adjusting for temperature difference since it’s calibrated for 20 C but the wort is around 28-30C.
Hey! Thanks so much for the input and the warm welcome. There wasn’t a huge temp delta to my recollection. Krausen was high overnight judging by the foam marks on the carboy. I also have a lot of headspace in this fermenter…I am approximately 19 hours from when I pitched it.
also checked...
Hi all - I brewed a German style pils yesterday. Since I want to serve this at a party in early April, I went for White Labs Hornindal Kveik with the intent of doing a super quick but still quite clean fermentation. I finished brewing around 7pm last night and already around midnight my airlock...
Alright just an update - after transferring and re-transferring back to my cleaned and sanitised corny keg on Tuesday, steady bubbling resumed Wednesday morning, and even picked up more as of this Thursday morning. I also upped the temp to 18 C - may have also had an effect. I will pull a sample...
Certainly - but like I noted the spunding valve is on and still releasing gas. Am I wrong to thing that the fermentation will continue over the next few days even though I transferred the beer around?
Alright - so just transferred everything to my barrel fermenter, which i purged with CO2 before racking in (without splashing at all!), then cleaned the keg, and re-racked from the fermenter into the keg, which i also purged with CO2 before siphoning in. Also blasted quickly with CO2 after...
Thanks for this! Also -- if I were to be really lazy could I just keep it all in the current keg? Perhaps after a cold crash the beer would run relatively clear after the first few pours if autolysis isn't as big of an issue as I feared? (Also just did some reading about that here...
So I am using fermentis safale us-05 and fermenting at 16C, so on the lower side of the temp range. If I understand correctly, you think the fermentation should already be completed, or?
Using a standard hydrometer/graduated cylinder set up for now.
If I remove the tube and cut it, is there...
Yes - OG of 1.055, calculated FG of 1.007 (not necessarily expecting to be this efficient). Current gravity from the sample I pulled this morning before work was 1.020 after 9 days of fermentation.
