    Alternative to airlock?

And that others may find in a search to solve a similar question and realise there are more simple methods. Putting other ideas out there is not wasted discussion, it's how we all learn.

    Alternative to airlock?

Clingwrap is usually sterile on packaging. As long as the underside (inside of the roll) is placed facedown on the fermenter. To be sure I also spray with starsan or equivalent sanitiser. It does not blow out, I have used it for years I can guarantee this does not happen. It will inflate, but...

    Alternative to airlock?

Sorry, how is the fermentation any more or less controlled with the cling wrap method? Your elements of control are, yeast pitch, sanitation, temperature and pressure. The only one that isn't controlled using this method is pressure as the poster isn't using a pressure fermentation vessel. If...

    Alternative to airlock?

Keep things simple. Plastic cling film over the opening held in place by an elastic band is all you will ever need. Fermentation provides positive pressure through CO2and the cling film will allow it out once pressure hits a certain point whilst keeping any nasties (including O2) out. I think it...

Now it's worse. 9kg grain in 46L at 80% is showing 1.059 OG. Change eff to 2%and it is still 1.059.

Whats going on with the Efficiency Calculator?

AS the title suggests. Brewed a WCIPA on the weekend and set eff to 80%. This gave me 1.066 SG with 11.6kg grain in 50L wort. I undershot so was trying to adjust the efficiency to get the correct SG in the recipe. So I set it at 70%- 1.064, and thought that's too high. So I set it at 60%-...
