I feel like I am not so much the beginner anymore, but I feel that this might be a beginner question. I bought a finish Hydrometer a while back but haven't had a big enough tube to use it in until now. I think that the reading I am getting here is 1021, minus approximately 0011 or so for a reading of approximately 1010 or even 1009. I used US-05 and it should finish at 1009. OG was 1052 (was supposed to be 1055). It has been 12 days, and the Krauzen fell around day 7.

Am I reading this hydrometer correctly?

I thought I would chime in here being of some Finnish heritage. Did it come with instructions? Almost looks like a vernier scale lol. Sorry I'm feeling a bit silly this evening.

Maybe I am, and maybe I am not still a beginner, but I am often not that clever. I had a closer look at the hydrometer it says right on it, below 20C subtract, above 20C add. What a dumbass I can be!
Asked and answered, thanks Chico, have another beer buddy ;)

I got this from my LHBS, I looked on Amazon, didn't see one there.

I'm serious about the Vernier scale. What's up with the red 20 and the + - thingy

It is calibrated for 20C, if you are under 20C you subtract points from the reading if you are over you add.
Pretty slick. The 1 is 1010, the 2 is 1020, as Iam reading 2.1, the reading is 1021, then I subtract 1.something based on the thermometer reading. Recipe FG estimate was 1009, so I would say that is about where it ended up. Close enough for the girls I run with!

Weird, I've never seen that.
