Trub or cold break?

That goop will clog up just about anything. Think scrambled eggs. A straight dump is fine as long as you don't get a lot of hop debris in there. Think scrambled egg whites with no salt and no fat.
 
I like the design Ozarks, definitely neat. I may try to combobulate something together like that for experiment. Probably going to continue dumping most into fermenter - I installed bottom drain on my keggle for cleaning, but too much trub can be interesting. If, after flameout I go straight to chiller before everything settles, then it will probably make things faster, and cleanup easier too! I am using CFC with 1/2" copper - Should be ok I would think to minimize clogs?
 
I have one of those stainless hop spiders and I've tried straining trub with poor results. They do work good for boil kettle hops and help minimize trub that way.
To minimize trub I just brew .5 gal more wort than I need and let it all settle before transfer for about 45 min. Then I just siphon off the top.

if you have a bottom drain I think that you should not cone your hops or trub in the middle, you can add a trub screen that should help as for clogging it should be fine but you should try it first, I have a stainless trub filter im selling

I'm getting better at leaving the last few gunky drops in my kettle....

I guess I should mention, I also have a racking valve on the side - the bottom drain was originally designed for cleaning purpose. Both are the same link to the trapper by the way.

Agreed on the "goop". We just practice goop and scoop! We spread the filter over the funnel and when it gets full, we shut off the valve, left and drain the bag, and put another filter bag over the filter. Then rinse and sanitize the precious filter... lather, rinse, repeat!
