Hi everyone,

I was wondering whether there are actually any good films or documentaries centered around beer that are worth watching.
I don’t just mean movies where people happen to drink beer, but films that really focus on beer culture, breweries, brewing, pub life, or the people behind it. I’m curious about anything from serious documentaries to fun or unusual fictional films, as long as beer is an important part of the story.

A few titles I’ve already found are:
Beer Wars
Brewmaster
Crafting a Nation
How Beer Saved the World
Strange Brew

So far, it seems like some of these lean more toward the business side, some toward brewing history, and others are more comedic or entertainment-focused.
I also found a couple of pages that might be useful, although it’s hard to tell which films are actually worth the time:

Have any of you seen a beer-related film or documentary you’d actually recommend? It could be informative, funny, historical, or just a good watch.
Thanks — I’d be interested to hear any suggestions.

There was a short documentary done in my region specifically about the origins of brewing in my area, how it use to be that you drank what was brewed in your general geographical area, then shifted to "big beer" and mass distribution, and how in recent decades it has come full circle and at least to a drlegree has shifted back to local independent breweries.
It was a cool production, but I don't recall what it was called, or where to find it for streaming.

some nice documentaries I’ve watched. I’m at work. I’ll look and post back. The one on Heineken was good.

There was a movie, I cant remember the name, But these 5 fellows were testing a theory that if you maintained a blood alcohol level of 5% your life would improve. It was in German and subtitled of course

You must mean .05%. 5% means you're dead! Unfortunately, some may feel that's an improvement.

Sounds like a good one to watch on a quiet night.

This 1983 movie is definitely NOT what you are looking for, but the fictitious characters Bob and Doug MacKenzie do like their apple fritters and beer!

I watched a few episodes of this, this was genuinely good, I should get back to it and watch some more. Unfortunately their brewery, if I recall correctly, has been sold for a relative song.

Also sold because James Watt was forced to resign after over 100 employees signed a letter accusing him of creating a toxic, fear-driven workplace, including dozens of accusations of sexually inappropriate behavior towards female staff, especially when at beer festivals and conferences.

When I worked at the brewery I told my boss I refused to work beer festivals or overnight conferences if I was alone. The amount of sexual harassment and assault towards women in the industry during these events is rampant, and well-known, but never addressed and very few men who were accused faced any professional or legal consequences.

Brewing is not friendly towards women or minorities. Don't give your money to breweries that don't hold their employees accountable for misconduct of any kind.

I wasn't aware of these circumstances around this brewery, that is shitty

Nah that's good to know. I do care and I keep track of these things. There are a half dozen breweries in my province I won't visit because the owners are shitheads.

Just watched "Beers of Joy" on Amazon Prime, also available from other sources. Great documentary following the quests of 4 craft brewers; two on the road to Master Cicerone, one lady looking to make the best Berliner Weisse and the last guy looking to recreate a 17th century beer dinner. Really well done. Fascinating content and interesting locations. Highly recommend.
