Just my opinion.

But if you compete with extract, you aren't doing the work. The mash, ph, etc was done for you. Be like entering a cooking contest after a chef cooked everything for you.

A contest should be ALL your work

Counterpoint: Do you do your own malting? Besides, that medal was many years ago...

He did start by saying it was his opinion.
The fermentable sugars, whatever they are or wherever they come from are really just a small part of the entire equation.
Fermentation control, pitch rate, handling, sanitation, packaging, etc. certainly add up to a much bigger part of the end result.
I say "Congrats" to whoever wins at that level.
Cheers,
Brian

lol, I get what you are saying. but even a chef doesnt raise thier owns cows.

When you go do you get to pick out the cow you want like they used to do with lobsters?
There was an episode of the Simpsons where that was the case. And Saturday Night Live did a skit similar, but it was mocking Wilson's House of Suede and Leather in Paramus, NJ. For a jacket, "you pick the cow, stun it, skin it, tan it and cut it, we do the sewing..."

How's the best beer in America a 4% lager with a single hop addition? What am I missing? Is this from the 1970s or something?

What no Cluster hops? The key word is AMERICAN lager....:p
