Notes

just read in IPA: Brewing Techniques Recipes and the Evolution of India Pale Ale by Mitch Steele regarding hop utilization that "a significant drop (as much as 33 percent) occurs during fermentation, because a drop in pH as the wort is fermented to beer causes a reduction in the solubility of isomerized alpha acids."

starter: 4 oz. pale dry malt, yeast nutrient, hop pellets

mash: 4 gallons water at 165.1 degrees, achieved close to target of 150 degrees, initial measurement was 150.4 degrees.

first wort hops added to first runnings, left in until boil start, then drained mesh bag to kettle.

pre-boil gravity 1.041
