Aim of this was to use my fresh autumn harvested cascade hops
However, they weren't dried so I used dried (but recently picked) Northdown for the bittering and cascade for the aroma
Guides suggested using 5-6x the amount of wet hops as you would for dried hops. However, my cascade had been drying for 3-4 days so I used 3-4x the amount (i.e. of dried hops I would have used 25g, here I used 80g)
I also tried putting the hops in muslin bags for the first time in the boil
Efficiency was very low (sub 60%) - so I added 500g of DME
It ended up being a slightly underpowered IPA
The water chemistry tasted quite nice - noticeably softer and right for a sweet tasting IPA
But it was not quite bitter enough, and the cascade flavour ended up being somewhat subtle - though still pleasant.
