If I paid attention to the per pint cost, it would probably offend me more. But, I choose to spend my money mostly at my local brewery or on my own brews. Sometimes they have a better expression than I do for a particular style, and that makes me want to do better. Other times I am confident mine is better or equal, but I still enjoy it because I didn’t have to sweat over a hot kettle to make it
I do know my most expensive shots of whiskey.
$80 for a “shot” of George Washington’s Rye, aged 2 years. GW never aged his rye, but the mash bill aged 2 years is respectably good. I confess that I split the shot at the Mt. Vernon Inn with a few others for $20 per. At that price it was worth it. Even at Down One in Louisville, I’ve not eclipsed the $80 / shot of whiskey even for Pappy, Willett Family Estate bourbon, or other rare expressions.
Back in NoVA, I saw 3 or 4 brewpubs come and go before we got some long term breweries; Port City, & Fair Winds were the 2 closest back then. Fortunately they’re still going strong.
I _think_ I’m spending about $7 / pint at the local brewery, excepting the big beers or barrel aged stuff. Definitely more than the Flying Saucer Happy hour prices, but that’s a solid 40 minute ride each way.
